New Patient Consultation

By having regular routine dental health assessments with one of our highly experienced dentists, you will receive expert help and advice. Our dentists and hygiene therapists will identify any potential problems before they become harder to treat. We focus on preventing dental problems by informing you of the best way to keep your teeth healthy.

Our dental team are respectful and will listen to any concerns you may have about your teeth and gums. We can offer you advice on which treatments could improve your dental health. We know how important it is to take time to listen to our patients concerns rather than trying to give solutions before we have the whole picture. We will make sure your concerns are discussed at an unhurried pace so that you can be sure we have understood why you have made the effort to come and see us.

Ibbott&Co is proud to be able to offer treatment to all of the family. It’s important to us that you are able to look after your whole family’s teeth under one roof.

What happens during a new patient assessment?

We call our first appointment with you a Comprehensive Assessment (because that’s what it is!). We will ask you to register for our online patient portal and fill in a couple of forms for us - nothing too rigorous, just some important information about your general and dental health as well as previous dental experience. We like to know as much about you and why you’ve come to see us as possible beforehand.

Janet or Chris will then come and meet you in our patient lounge. We’ll head to one of our treatment rooms to chat about you and what has brought you to us. Once we have listened to your concerns, we will summarise them back to you just to make sure we have really understood - even its just that you haven’t seen a dentist for a while. After that we’ll pop you back in the chair and take a look. We usually have a nice nature doc playing on our ceiling TV so that you’ve got something nice to look at rather than a blank ceiling!

Through your examination, we’ll carry out the following assessments:

  • Your teeth themselves

  • The skin inside your mouth

  • Your gums

  • The degree and area of any tooth wear

  • An assessment of your bite and jaw joint and the way that your teeth fit together

We’ll give you the opportunity to discuss any concerns or ask any questions as you go along but we will present the results of what we’ve discovered at the end of the appointment.

If we need to create a treatment plan for your, particularly if things are a little more complex, we will invite you back for an Options Meeting where we will present our findings and talk you though all of your options. Theres no charge for this.
